Gradebook not displaying multiple worksheets after update to ST 2009

Asked by Laurie Savage on 2009-05-04

After updating to ST 2009 my Gradebook only shows the first worksheet for each of my classes and there is no drop down list allowing me to switch between Worksheets. Neither is there a link to "final grades".

Hi Laurie,

Yes, we didn't make this transition as easy as we should have for gradebook users -- and I need to write more documentation.

The worksheets *should* show up as a row of tabs above the spreadsheet area. Perhaps you could take a screenshot for us if they're not there?

The final grades feature we're deprecating in favor of a new report card system, which definitely needs to be documented. Do you need something in particular from the final grades?

Hi Tom,

I found the Final Grades sheet invaluable for monitoring student progress
last term.

This may seem like a strange question, but what did you actually do with the final grades page?

Laurie Savage (sav-pvgc) said : #4

Because a final grade is derived from achievement in different areas I found the final grades sheet provided a nice quick overview. It also gives me the students' final grades.

I'm afraid that without the final grades view, the gradebook is next to useless to us. We need to be able to export to Excel or CSV an entire gradebook for a class including each worksheet and the final grade. The reports card facility which might replace final grades is not accessible from the gradebook, and when clicked from the home page just generates this message:

"PDF support is disabled. It can be enabled by your administrator."

There does not seem to be any way of enabling PDF support from within SchoolTool.

OK... clearly I'm missing something about the way you're using the final grades page but in the meantime should be able to turn it on again for next Tuesday's bugfix.

So you were using multiple worksheets organized by different types of activities?

Probably we'll all be happy if I just rename it -- calling it "final grades" would make it confusing compared to the report sheet system -- perhaps just "summary" will do.

Can you navigate between worksheets now?

Also, we'll get pdf on by default.

Thanks for your patience.

Thanks. We organise our overall grades by a set of "Outcomes" which might typically contain some lab exercises, a journal and a quiz or two. These exercises may be weighted - which ST does nicely, then the Outcomes (Worksheets in your terminology) are summed to produce a final grade. (Our outcomes are often weighted as well e.g., 30, 30, 40).

Yes I can find the Worksheet tabs now! I guess I need to upgrade my glasses.

My guess would be that the "msttcorefonts" package is not installed

sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts

and restart of the schooltool server should fix the problem.
