Install SchoolTool in Ubuntu 18.04

Asked by erwin

I am upgrading my Ubuntu server from version 14.04 to 18.04. Currently I am using SchoolTool for my personal use and now I want to deploy the system in a public school in Las Pinas City, Metro Manila, Philippines. I am recommending the use of SchoolTool to address the current Covid-19 situation. Can someone help me with my problem.

SchoolTool seems to be pretty dead. I do not find anything newer than a version from 2016, and there is no version available for Ubuntu releases since Ubuntu 17.04 because dependencies cannot be met.
See bug #1665464

Even the hompeage schooltool.org does not exist any more (to be exact, reroutes to pages with dubious contents).

Thank you for your response.

OK, I know that there is no SchoolTool version other than Ubuntu 14.04. My question is will it be possible to install in a newer Ubuntu version without using the repository thru ppa. Can I download SchoolTool source and compile it on my new server or by using other technology like Docker container.

I cannot help with that, you have to try yourself.
I suggest that you download the tarball from https://launchpad.net/schooltool (right side), unpack it and go through the README file.

Thank you for always accommodating my questions. Appreciate it so much.

Does 2.8.5 Release contains cando, gradebook, intervention, and journal. Do I have to download the individual components.
