Using SchoolTool for an after school tutoring centre

Asked by Shamim Rahim

HI, I am very new to SchoolTool and am just trying to get my head around its setup and structure. I work for a small eduction centre that operates after school for children that require extra tutoring for maths and English. Each student has an individual learning programme designed for them and are taught individually. We don't have any structured classes but 'sessions' where children attend and work through their programme individually.

I would like to accomplish the following:
1. Capture student demographics (seems pretty straightforward in SchoolTool)
2. Assign specific curriculum topics to individual students and monitor their progress as they complete these subjects. I feel that I should be able to accomplish this with CanDo skills but after adding all the skills, I'm struggling to find a way to assign them to students and then be able to view them all (with their individualised learning programmes) in the CanDo view.

I know that I am probably not understanding the SchoolTool structure correctly and was hoping someone could advise on how I can achieve this. I simply want to view all students with their individual programmes in one place and be able to report on their progress as they complete each topic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Due to the requirements of the original customers for CanDo, it is very course-oriented. It works most naturally when you assign competencies to a course and then evaluate the students via the section gradebook. If you have an individualized system where each student has different individualized requirements, it is a more difficult fit.

Can you help with this problem?
