failed to connect

Asked by Peter on 2015-07-30

I recently installed schooltool on a virtual machine running ubuntu server. I have changed the host to 0.0.0.0 and I am able to access schooltool from the same machine running the virtual machine, but when I try to access it from my laptop, I cannot connect.

Can you ping the server?

Peter (ptnguyen1987) said : #2

No I can't. It says it couldn't find the host.

Peter (ptnguyen1987) said : #3

Just to be sure.. all I have to do in cmd is

ping [ip address[:portnumber?

Peter (ptnguyen1987) said : #4

Sorry, I think I understand now.

I can ping the server from the computer running the virtual machine, but from my laptop I get a request timed out message.

OK... so you have a network issue rather than a SchoolTool issue.

ah thanks so much for helping me narrow down the problem. I had to set my network type to bridged and select only one network adapter instead of automatic using VMWare.
