Displaying all of the comment on group term report.

Asked by Andrew Richards

Hi

I managed to deploy a term report for gathering student grades and comments, and successfully generated a transcript report in manager mode.

My issue concerns the presentation of the group report when displayed for a teacher. A grade average and total grade for all three grades are produced, but this is not necessarily a problem that affects the eventual transcript. The comment, however, is blocked out by these two bits of data and will not allow the teacher to print off a group report for visual proofreading of the comments. I personally like to read over my comments on paper and SMT is tasked with proofreading teacher's reports before corrections come to me for editing. I also do not fancy exporting data to an XLS file and then have to import it into another program just to correct comments.

Will this issue be resolved in the near future?

Many thanks,

Andrew Richards

I think this is an issue with schooltool.com, not schooltool.org?

HI Tom

This is definitely an issue with my installation of Schooltool.org and I am viewing the pdf report on my own networked machine and not through the Linux distro.

If you contact me on <email address hidden>, I can email you a copy of the pdf files that I am generating.

Thanks for the prompt reply,

Andrew Richards

Ah, ok, I see what you mean. How would you want the comments displayed there?

Hi

I would like to see the whole comment for each student so that a paper copy could be printed and checked by hand. The point average and total grade average are not required by our system as we give each student a separate grade for term, effort and exam performance, but they need not be removed as long as all of the comment is visible.

Thanks

Andy

No,

I would need the name, the grades that need to be checked (i.e. term, effort and exam) in case they are absent or erroneous, and the comment.

Hi

Our original system uses Access. On lower school reports (Y6-Y11) a comment can only use 255 chars (short text field) because of the number of subjects displayed on the report but upper school reports (Y12-Y13) only have three or four subjects and the comments are significantly longer (long text field).

I can send you examples of our current reports if you want me too.

OK, Tom

Will be at least half hour until I can sort something out. I am currently supervising the first Y11 group sitting their IGCSE P21 practical paper and will send you some details before the other group starts their exam at 12:30 pm.
