Upload XLS Error message

Asked by Romano

Hi all
When trying to import the test file sample_data.xls I get this error message:

Groups
------

is not a valid username:
A812, A1626

Persons
-------

missing required text:
P2-474, Q2-474, R2-474, S2-474, T2-474, V2-474

Sections
--------

has an invalid username:
I10-11, I22-23

I have looked for persons with ID similar to the above numbers. Negative.
I have done a search on the Excel sheet. Again Negative.

Can some body explain this?

Thanks all

The things like "A812" are pointing you to specific cells. e.g., Group sheet, column A, row 812.

Upload and Download not working...

I spent many h playing with the 2 functions and I am non the wiser.
Is there any detailed manual for this?
I now got a bunch of messages on my home pages that tell me the download is still running. How do I get rid of these?
I still get errors trying to upload the test file.
I also reduced a testfile to our student names only. But get stacks of errors...
Is there a list of mandatory fields?

Regards
Romano

OK, there is *something* going on with your formatting or some kind of Excel weirdness that is confusing our parser. One visible sign of this is that your text was aligned right instead of left, although I don't know what that signifies. Or perhaps there is some kind of weird version incompatibility. Were you using Excel and not LibreOffice?

What I ended up doing was exporting your spreadsheet as CSV, then opening that and pasting the data into our empty_data.xls template (in LibreOffice). Then the person import worked. That may be more steps than is strictly necessary, but it worked.

Hi Tom

Firstly thank you very much for your help.

I am not sure, do you indicate you actually imported the students on our DB?
I just had a look and can not see any new students, could be I miss something.

I am working on a school computer today and can not install anything locally. Also can not go to facebook!
(Will personally strangle the next sys admin I see in the hallway... -))

Anyway I will install libreoffice on Monday on my own machine and try the import.

I have left a few other messages re export of School Tool data too. If you could help with that as well that would be super!

Again thanks for your help
Romano

I imported the students from the sheet you sent me. I guess I should also note that I deleted the birthdates since they weren't in the right format -- they included time, again probably some Excel format issue. I also restarted the server. The failed imports may be blocking further attempts. We'll have to figure out at least why they are failing without completing.

Hi all
I am now working from home and I installed the LibreOffice.
I re-saved the excel file and made sure the birthday field looks more standard.
Still I get the errors above....

Any ideas
Romano

If you added person demographics, you need to do an export to get a template that includes the new (and perhaps required) import fields.
