Adding date range for Sections

Asked by Paul Mannino

I teach at a small flight school. We do not have the concept of YEARs or TERMs. We have COURSEs (probably 6) and run SECTIONs continuously and serially throughout the year. Each SECTION has a specified starting date and ending date. There's a long course that's roughly 14 days and a short course that's roughly 4 days.

COURSEs are I300 and R300. SECTION titles include the starting month, alpha, and the year.

I'd like to specify date ranges for each of the associated sections as follows:
I300-1A-14 1/4/2014 1/20/2014
I300-1B-14 1/15/2014 1/30/2014
I300-1C-14 1/30/2014 2/14/2014

R300-1A-14 1/6/2014 1/9/2014
R300-1B-14 1/13/2014 1/16/2014
R300-2A-14 2/10/2014 2/15/2014

I set up my YEAR from 2014-01-01 until 2017-12-31. I tried to create a TERM for each range of SECTION dates, but got an error that said they overlapped. Is it possible to do what I want? I didn't see dates in the SECTIONS GUI.

Hi Paul,

Yes, this is something that needs to be updated in the documentation.

Just set up one term spanning the whole year.

When you create a section, there is a Schedule link in the section's sidebar. Click that, click Add: Schedule.

Then you'll see tabs for Terms and Custom Date Range. You can use the Custom Date Range tab to select whatever start and end dates you need.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I saw that, but it requires a TIMETABLE. We're not using those either. How would I go about fudging on of those?

Answered my own question. I just created one TIMETABLE stretching from 00:00 - 23:59. I can probably break this up after my prototype demo.

Thanks!

Is there some kind of pattern to the times when sections meet?

I had deactivated english_US as we use english_GB in Australia. Reactivating it constant the problem at once. It's a shame that OpenERP does not offer more useful blunders records however now I study the overall traceback within the log I can see the closing strains before the 'listing index out of variety' error are references to language associated information track as you can read here https://rangehoodpoint.com/

Can you help with this problem?
