How to identify data for groups in Import XLS

Asked by Elizabeth Rowden

I am new to Schooltool and trying to reformat my current Excel spreadsheet so I can import it into Schooltool. I have created new demographics specific to different groups (staff and pupils) and note that they only export onto the Persons worksheet. When I import test data it tells me that I have missing data but these may be new fields which I have identified as just for pupils and so there should be no data in the cell for staff.
How do I identify the person as staff on the Excel sheet so it knows not to expect this data, as even records I've created directly on the web browser now demand data.

Hi Elizabeth,

I would say this is a bug resulting from the fact that we create the people before we assign them to groups, thus the person sheet does not know ahead of time to ignore the "required" fields not relevant to a person's role(s).

The workaround would seem to be not making any of the fields not applicable to all people required (if you're importing the people). For us the longer term fix is probably shifting to import sheets based around the core groups (students, teachers, etc), which most people would probably prefer anyhow.
