template customization or API

We would like to customize the look/feel of the site to match our existing website and brand.
Can this all be done using the zope templating system?
What resource would you recommend to get started.

If we cannot do the above effectively, is there an API where we could connect to in order to obtain the key information about students and display it in our own portal?

How extensive do you want the changes to be?

One thing we have done to make basic customization easier is put all the colors in a single style sheet.
