Activity due dates visible on student's calendar

Asked by fouldsy

Within gradebook, an instructor can assign a due date when creating an assignment, however I don't see any way to then make this visible within the calendar, either for the instructor or, ideally, for the student. Class sections are listed for both instructor and student, but not assignments. Assignments without due dates set by the instructor understandably would not be displayed.

It would be very helpful for students to see on their calendar when they have assignments due in the same way they can view their timetable. For grade level students becoming accustomed to study skills and managing homework/assignment load, taking the assigned due date for a given assignment and making it available right there on their calendar would make things a lot simpler, especially for parents utilizing the same student login to be able to see what assignments their child has coming up along with their grades.

Yes, this is all perfectly sensible... we've just not gotten to it yet. In part because people haven't complained much about it compared to other things, so yes, this question is useful. I hope to get to this before the October release, but if not, before the end of the year.

This sort of thing is somewhat more complicated than you might think, since you have to update the events in the calendar if the gradebook changes, etc. Not that it is rocket science, but it will take a little care.

I am trying to determine if this feature has been implemented. Tom implies it might have been added to Fall 2012, but when I was testing it out, it appears to not add anything to the student's calendars?

No, it has not been done yet, I'll elevate it to a bug.

Can you help with this problem?
