SchoolTool & OpenAdmin

Asked by ScorpFromHell

Are there plans to integrate SchoolTool & OpenAdmin projects so that it is pretty easy & straight forward for simple SIs who do not have much expertise in coding, but are only adept in following a set of instructions to setup software?

Easing the task of setting up SchoolTool & OpenAdmin and their integration will go a long way in developing countries, especially India, where small time SIs typically do not have much idea about the tools themselves and even about the installation know only 'when to click on what' during the installation process. :(

OpenAdmin and SchoolTool both do essentially the same thing, so I'm not sure what kind of integration you have in mind.

I apologize for the delayed response.

OpenAdmin has student information & school fees handling functionalities too. This, AFAIK, is being developed in SchoolTool.

I was wondering if the functionalities cannot be lifted from OpenAdmin or the code itself, provided the licenses allow for it?

SchoolTool is written in Python, and OpenAdmin is written in PHP, so no, functionality cannot simply be moved from one to another.

Actually, Open Administration for Schools is written in perl... (and of course needs the perl DBI to talk to databases), and also uses the TeX/LaTeX system for document preparation (normally PDF). We stand on the shoulders of others! (grin)
