SamePlace for Thunderbird launches SamePlace web site

Asked by eriksandall

I use SamePlace (0.9.4) for Thunderbird (2.0.0) on Mac OS (10.4). Every time I launch Thunderbird, my web browser (Firefox 3.0) automatically goes to the SamePlace site. If Firefox is closed, it will open and then go to the site. How do I stop SamePlace from hijacking my web browser every time I launch Thunderbird?

Thanks in advance.

I suppose you uninstalled the extensions and reinstalled it. But this doesn't solve the problem for me. Still get the Sameplace website every time.
Any suggestions?

Nope, I didn't bother reinstalling. You should try it!

elara: perhaps you shut down your computer with Thunderbird still open?

The information "The update news have been shown already, don't show them again" is saved in Thunderbird preferences, and preferences are saved when Thunderbird is closed. However, if Thunderbird is killed as a consequence of your computer shutting down, it will always think that it's the first run after installing the extension.

So I suggest you close Thunderbird at least once and restart it.

Please let me know if that solves the problem.

I have it started and regularly closed thunderbird about a dozen times since installing the extension. Nevertheless I just tried again and made sure thunderbird was really closed, but that doesn't solve the problem.
Apart from the account infos, I have the following entries in the thunderbirds prefs.js file
  user_pref("extensions.sameplace.chatArea", "external")
  user_pref("xmpp.firstInstall", false);
concerning sameplace, xmpp resp

Weird... well this is then a bug and should be fixed, but as a temporary workaround you could set "extensions.sameplace.version" to something high (like 42.0.0). That's the preference entry that is checked to see if it's a first install.

Should be fixed in 0.9.4.2009022408 available from http://www.sameplace.cc/download.
