jabber chat room config w/ip address

I'm trying to connect to a chat room. I have an account on the server, which I can connect to. I can see the other users.

I'm not sure how to enter the information for the chat room. The server doesn't have a domain name. Only an ip address.

ip address: 123.456.789.0
chat server name: chat
room name: room

I tried <email address hidden>, room@123.456.789.0/chat, and several other variations. None of them worked. Also, I verified that I was connecting using the correct account.

Does anyone have any recommendations regarding the correct format to connect?

hey there,

as far as i know the jid has to be a domain name. i went through a lot of trial and error with the ip in there, no love. i use an old version of openfire and have been able to connect using sameplace. dns routing from my desktop doesnt work for some reason, so i have to put in a config similar to the following:

username: dummy
password: dummy
service: domain.name.i.entered.into.openfire.setup (im pretty sure this could be made up to be anything, although the host name should probably match the host name of your server)
resource: SamePlace (really it can be anything)
ADVANCED:
server: 123.456.789.0
port: 5222
encryption: none

and that fires it off, now for the chat rooms.

i have openfire set up to have conference.domain.name.i.entered.into.openfire.setup as my group chat service address
my chatroom config is like this:
address: <email address hidden> (where room is the room id of my chat room)
nickname: dummy
account: <email address hidden>/SamePlace
