Has been 6+ years since I used im. How do I search for people with whom to connect?

Jabber have been designed as decentralized network (there are a lot of separate Jabber servers) so, likely that you will not be able to find someone, who didn't provided his Jabber ID as contact address (because, there are no single database with all users of all servers [unlike ICQ] ). It's not a bug, defect or something like this - just specificity of this protocol...
