Message alert request

Are there any plans for future versions to have an icon highlight in the Firefox status bar when new messages arrive, similar to what Meebo does? Right now I have the "sound alerts" scriptlet installed but the button on the toolbar changing does not get my attention very easily if I've been away from my computer for a while.
