appear offline but can send msgs

Hi

Hi

I'm not very computer literate so this answer is probably simple.

I open firefox.

Sameplace is open on the left of the screen.

All my contacts appear offline even though some are online.

My status is set to online but i appear offline to my friends (I have my girlfriends laptop beside mine so I know this is the case)

I click on my girlfriends icon and we can chat.

Am i doing something wrong? How is it I appear offline as do all my contacts but i can still chat?

Are these contacts imported from MSN or AIM or ICQ?

If so, you might need to log out then back in for the gateway (the "bridge between networks") to note that you are online, and log you in on MSN/AIM/ICQ.
