How exactly is the SMS integration done. Does it need some kind of SMS Gateway to be integrated with it or is it that the Sahana Application itself communicates with someother opensource SMS Gateway to send them

Asked by Srinivasan Anand

We are planning to implement this Sahana application for one of our nonprofit activities. Mainly we will be using the SMS functionality of this. Would like to know some information regarding the SMS sending facility. Have seen so many websites where we need to subscribe to the SMSs and they will be sent and in some places, we have the API software with us, but we just need to attach a GSM module to our system. But the constraint is that we do not have the whole Linux server with us (A hosted site with an external ISP, where we do not have physical control over the server). So, thats what we have to understand how exactly this SMS functionality works with the Sahana system. This may be a basic question, but sorry I can't help it. Thanks for your cooperation.

Sahana uses SMSTools or Kannel for it's SMS gateways. Both these work over linux and can be compiled for windows with Cygwin. Once installed you have to configure Sahana for the respective package.
