I am sorry, I don't understand the problem as you describe it. Could you please try and describe it again. It might be best to write a list of steps about what you did, what you expected to happen and what really happened. Thank you!

Ah, I think I understand the question. The question is: "why do we have to translate every series from scratch?"

The answer is: you don't. You can export your translations from 2.7 and import them to 2.8.

However we have a new feature called "message sharing." The next time a new WordPress release series opens in Launchpad, it will automatically have all the translations from 2.8. We are also working on a conversion of the old data, so that all the old release series will also share their translations with each other.

:)
and the problem is "sometime you accept importing after 2 weeks, and sometime you report strings error in imported file"

Feel free to remind us when new uploads stay "needs review" for more than two working days. It's pretty rare for it to take as long as a week nowadays, unless there is a clear mistake in the upload such as calling it "messages.po" instead of "messages.pot," or using the wrong language code.

As for files with errors: try running them through msgfmt -c before uploading them. That should tell you about most problems that can happen without having to wait for the import.

Alternatively, make sure the new release series' source repository is mirrored in Launchpad, and enable automatic imports from the bzr branch under the series settings. That way there should be no wait at all, and any template changes will be imported to Launchpad automatically.

srry, really your system is bugy full!!
downloaded wp2.7 from launchpad and imported to wp2.8
############
On 2009-07-21 08:22+0000 (58 minutes ago), you uploaded a file with
Kurdish (Sorani) (ckb) translations for wordpress in WordPress 2.8 to
Launchpad.

We were unable to import the file because of errors in its format:

No header found in this pofile

If you use gettext, you can check your file for correct formatting with
the 'msgfmt -c' command. Please fix any errors raised by msgfmt and
upload the file again. If you check the file and you don't find any
error in it, please look for an answer or file a question at

Well, nevertheless the file needs a header that specifies the encoding and such.
