sasl setup for a single user?

The documentation at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RemoteInput/rinputd#Configuration says:
"If you have installed the rinputd package version 1.0.3-2 or later in Ubuntu or Debian, this step may be skipped unless multiple users are required."
If multiple users are not required, what should be used as username/password by the client?

The package should have asked you what the username/password you wanted when you installed it the first time. If that didn't happen, you can run the command to manually set up a username and password.
