Access Firefox (Rhythmweb) on desktop via tablet?

Asked by Victoria

I want to be able to access/control Rhythmbox remotely using my Android-based tablet. I installed the Rhythmweb plugin, that enables me to access/control Rhythmbox in Firefox (http://192.168.0.101:8000) -- on my desktop (Ubuntu 10.04) -- but I cannot access this address using my tablet (using the Dolphin browser, on my tablet).

I tried adding port forwarding for port 8000, (my D-Link DIR-615 router), but this did not help, and I was later told that it was not needed (on my LAN; intended for outside connections).

I also (per another suggestion) added port 8000 to my firewall (Ubuntu ufw),

victoria@VICTORIA:~/temp$ sudo ufw status
Status: active
To Action From
-- ------ ----
8000/tcp ALLOW OUT Anywhere

but this also did not help: I still cannot access Firefox on my Ubuntu box with my Android tablet.

Please advise, thank you.

This is likely a networking issue and has nothing to to with the Rhythmweb project. Victoria, you neet to make sure that your tablet and your desktop both connect to your network the same way and that your tablet/Donphin is not using a proxy server.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Victoria for more information if necessary.
