Can we change the default Music Store directory?

Asked by JonNicholson

My PC disk setup uses a small hard disk (20 GB master drive) for the operating system and applications, and a larger hard disk (80 GB, set up as a slave drive) for all of my data. I would prefer to keep all of the music that I download from the Music Store on that larger drive. Actually, I must keep it there, otherwise I will quickly run out of room on my master drive, and not be able to buy more music! (hint, hint) Can I configure Rhythmbox to choose my folder for downloading and storing music from the Ubuntu One Music Store?
Failing that option, can I prevent Rhythmbox from re-downloading music that I cut-and-paste from the default folder on the master drive to a folder on my slave drive?
Thanks

Hi Jon,

Currently you cannot change the directory music (purchased from the Ubuntu One Music Store) is stored. It's partially related to this FAQ: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/FAQ#Why%20are%20downloaded%20music%20files%20stored%20in%20a%20hidden%20directory?

Thank you,

Joshua

How about the other part of the question: "... can I prevent Rhythmbox from re-downloading music that I cut-and-paste from the default folder on the master drive to a folder on my slave drive?" I read in one of the other questions that if a person deletes music out of the default folder, the Ubuntu One will download the music again. Can I prevent that?

Hi Jon,

You can choose to remove purchased songs from Ubuntu One sync. This can be done by copying them from your Rhythmbox library to a non-synchronizing folder (e.g., ~/Desktop). Once a copy exists outside of Rhythmbox, you can move the synchronizing purchased music files from your Rhythmbox library to the trash. Then you can move the copied files to your typical music storage location (e.g., ~/Music) and add them back to the Rhythmbox library.

Thank you,

Joshua
