Integration in Amarok

Asked by Shane Lazar

Hi all,

I know that integration of the Ubuntu One Music Store into other players has been approved. I was wondering what time frame can we expect for this integration... seeing that 10.04 is only a few days away. Is it even going to be present in Kubuntu 10.04?

Hi Shane,

There isn't an Ubuntu One Music Store plugin for Amarok. We are interested in seeing the Ubuntu One Music Store integrated into as many media players as possible. If you or someone you know is interested in doing this work, please let me know and I'll get you in touch with developers on the Ubuntu One team who can help.

Thank you,

Joshua

Hi Joshua,

Sorry, I have zero experience in coding for KDE and Amarok. I have started a thread on the KDE forums. Hopefully, somebody will step up.

From the KDE forum:

"They are oddly reticent about where the money goes. I can't see any advantage for Amarok unless the profits flow back to the Amarok community. That's why Magnatune is so cool -- artists get 50%, Amarok gets 10%, plus they have been funding one of our developers.

Is Ubuntu One Music Store offering terms like that? If not, I don't see the advantage for the artists or for Amarok."

Since the Music Store will generate income for Canonical, I think this is a valid point. Hopefully, someone from the Kubuntu team can work on this... or maybe Canonical can fund its development... after all, it is their store.

Can you help with this problem?
