I am not sure if I am missing something but there is no xpi for the firefox addon in the latest build.

Wow, this was a bug. I quickly commited a fix, it's available for download:
http://launchpad.net/rescuetime-linux-uploader/trunk/97/+download/rescuetime-linux-uploader-98.tar.bz2

The xpi could be built by yourself using build.sh in the firefox_extension directory, but since it's not mentioned in README, I've uploaded a new tarball.
