Alternate pdf reader

Dear Developers,

would it be possible to allow referencer to call a different program for reading pdfs?

Referencer uses whatever is associated with PDFs in the gnome environment -- you can reconfigure this in the gnome file manager. It is not possible to configure this in referencer independently.

If this was intended as a feature request, those are filed under Bugs rather than Answers.
