access to download requires a fee

i am attempting to download rednotebook's source code but your download page is requiring a donation. my understanding is that unless you provide access gratis otherwise then your open source claiim is not on the up-and-up. pls advise. the download for linux mint has been failing for more than a couple of weeks. i understand that's probably their issue and is separate and aprt from the issue i raise. thx!
