Archiving set of days entries

Asked by LIRET

Hello !
I really appreciate RedNotebook tool, as a daily help to organize my work, my bookmarks (and links to files, doc, etc.), as well as, of course, take notes during or after a meeting, store and/or share them to others.
I 've already "converted" about 10 of my colleagues to use this tool (portable version, due to install restriction on our Office Computers), and they still use it with same happiness as mine.

I read your issues about Word Cloud & Preview mode within the last versions (2.x), so I continue to use 1.x (portable) version.

Questions :
1) would it be possible (in a future version ?) to import ".ics" file coming from Outlook calendar, as new tags ("etiquette" in French) in the right side panel at appropriate dates ?
I wrote & experimented some program (in R ) to add such ics items in RedNotebook monthly text files, but it's not optimal.

2) would it be possible (in a future version ?) to group "old" monthly text files into one "archive" day file, for example 2017-12-31 for all 2010-* files, with a formatting date line, copy-pasting content of day, separating line, etc.
Or any hint to achieve such goal ?

example :
=2010-01-03 archive=
blablabla
===============================
=2010-05-13 archive=
tototototo
(...)
===============================
=2010-12-29 archive=

Thanks a lot for your work
Happy New Year 2018, full of new RedNotebook improvements !

I'm glad you like the program. Both your suggestions sound like
specialized wishes (the second more than the first) and I think it would
be best to use external scripts to accomplish them as you're already
doing. Manipulating the month files should be straightforward,
especially with a YAML library like PyYAML. If the scripts prove to be
useful and robust, we can think about making them available to more
RedNotebook users.

PS. While working on your scripts, please keep in mind that the
right-side panel will probably go away in a future version to simplify
the interface and the code
(https://github.com/jendrikseipp/rednotebook/issues/139).

Can you help with this problem?
