Have you ever considered getting full markdown support?

Asked by Tim Apple

I really love this app, I think it would be great if it supported Markdown instead of it's own formatting.

Agreed, I'm currently thinking about how to support Markdown without
breaking backwards compatibility for the txt2tags markup.

+1 for this.

I love RN and it really helps me a lot in getting my scientific work done on a daily basis without loosing track about my ideas and intermediate results.
Since nowadays nearly everyone is using Markdown and it has proven to be versatile and feature complete enough for daily use, I would really love to see RN to support GitHub flavored Markdown.

Is there any progress? I think that feature is the only thing that is missing right now.

About the backward compatibility:

You could add a setting to the journal file (e. g. first line) that contains which kind of annotation is used for that journal, and a setting in the GUI that allows users to select this ? Perhaps even for each day separately to gain maximum flexibility?

But to be honest, I think everybody will switch to Markdown as soon as it is available. You could provide a migration script for pre-existing journals, that shouldn't be too hard to do.

Markdown support is still planned, but so far nobody has stepped up to work on it. If you'd like to work on it, please get in touch to talk about how to proceed.

Can you help with this problem?
