Text autocompletion would be great

Asked by Dario Panzeri

Hi,
I'm using RedNotebook as a laboratory log. Of course I use templates, but half of the time I just have to type in a short line, using a rather small vocabulary, and I often need to fill up the templates with techincal names that should stay coherent througout the log.

Long story short: a text autocompletion function (picking from the words already present) would facicilitate my work greatly.

Would it be reasonably easy to implement?

It could be useful for inputing the most used hashtags as well!

Thanks a lot

 Dario

Interesting idea! I think it could be implemented by switching the
normal textview to be a gtksourceview. gtksourceview supports
auto-completion. This would require a substantial amount of work though.
Please, get in touch if you'd like to work on that.

Sorry, but I'm just a biologist, I can't help with programming. Is this gtksourceview scheduled anyway? Will it bring other benefits? Just asking

Thanks a lot for everything!!

gtksourceview would also bring better indentation and better undo/redo.
It is however not planned to switch to gtksourceview currently.

Hello,

I agree with this idea: autocompletion would be great, mostly with hashtags.

I use rednotebook since 2 months ago every day. I tried a few diairy app but no app seems to be better than rednotebook.
