Overtype Mode (Characters being replaced when I type)

I was making a journal entry and I noticed that I when I went back to correct something (I am kind of a perfectionist so every has to be spelled correctly) and I noticed the characters were being replaced like in Microsoft Word's Over type Mode that would sometimes be accidentally turned on. I don't know what I did but how do I get it off?
