setting Windows LANGUAGE env var is wrong 'solution' to font bugs.

Question: do you have fixes coming to the font display bugs/inconsistencies ?

UPDATE : setting the font to Meiryo wherever possible in the Windows Theme has NOT corrected the preview problem OR the Tag Cloud failing to display until the tag is selected "blindly" as empty rectangles.

You already ARE able to display Kanji characters correctly in 2 views BUT NOT in the 2 views that matter most ! ( RedNtbk 2.4 on WIndows )

This is portable RedNotebook that I am using.

Setting an ENV var is totally wrong-headed for these kind of bugs/inconsistencies/over-sights.

Above all, it is irrelevant for a European user making notes about a CJK language such as Japanese.

The first or initial issue for Japanese (prior to font choice) is whether the char encoding will be Unicode, SHIFT-JIS, SHIFT -EUC or other.

And even then, the choice of font and font-size would be daunting if not available for selected text.

The present absurdity is that LANGUAGE flips locale ( my RedNotebook now has Japanese menu items ) but still has EVERY font bug :
  1) the Kanji are UNKNOWN empty rectangles in Tag Cloud
  2) the kanji are displayed if selected from the tag cloud
  3) the Kanji are UNKNOWN empty rectangles in Preview of note
  4) the Kanji are displayed in a note in Edit mode.

This is utterly exasperrating in what is intended to be a portable app.

When I program a portable app as a developer I provide for a fallback in the same class of font if a given font is not available : that fallback font must cover the same emcoding ( Unicode or JIS or EUC or other in the case of Japanese )

Sadly, the note taking software available on Windows other than MS OneNote are as bad one as the other in addressing Japanese ... the nation with a major economy, a major hi-tech player, a geo-political player in the Pacific Rim ... a mjaor nation in the 20th C. history of the west ... all of these reason for Japan to be in notes.

See ANY topic( try, Shinto ) in en.wikipedia.org and the topic will be followed by the kanji in Unicode and in IPA Unicode characters - so any note from wikipedia will not permit a tag with content that is in that article.

Does not the problem with a note form wikipedia make this an issue for a note-taking app with tags ?
