Templates : Insert vs. Edit

Asked by Prime Jyothi

Been using RedNotebook for a while. One of the recent updates made a change in the Template functionality. Right now when I select the Template button and select one of the templates, it directly goes to the edit mode. If I have to make an entry based on the template, I'll have to click "Save and Insert". If by mistake it is edited and saved, the template is changed. How can create an entry based on Template instead of modifying the template?

IMHO, templates are not edited on a daily basis, but entries are created based on templates very frequently. How can I get the contents of the templates in the edit window only for the journal entry and not modify the template itself?

Thanks,
Prime

The change assumes that when you edit a template you frequently also
want to modify it beforehand. If you don't want to modify it, just click
"Save and Insert". You can then make the changes that only apply to the
current day.

Thank you. The problem is that I forget to click the "Save and Insert" many times and proceed with editing the template. In
earlier versions, this was not the case, editing the template was elsewhere.

Looks like I have to train myself to click the "Save and Insert" button every time.

Thanks,
Prime

I'm confused a little about templates anyway. In other words I don't want to go to the trouble of making one only to find out it doesn't work the way I want later on. Example. I'd like to make a template called Almanac. which would include moon phase, sunrise/sunset, specific holidays etc. for any defined location. (It would be even nicer if I could add a script or gadget to update automatically. As it stands now I have to make the template for each day as the day occurs or make one for each day and save in a directory then insert on the appropriate date. This serves no purpose as I can just do that anyway on my standard template I already use. same with the health template. since I already have a spreadsheet for that which gets updates throughout the day, when I took my meds, my vital signs etc. would be nice to have the ability to integrate an interactive spreadsheet or table as an insertable template or even on my main template I'm using.

Can you help with this problem?
