Reload exported data

Asked by John Densem

I have just done a clean load of windows 8. Before starting I exported my Red Notebook data in a TXT file. How can I import that back now?

I'm using version 1.5.0, I'm trying to find the import data back too but I can't get it.
However, I found a way to import it. You can do it as the step below:
- Copy your exported data
- past it into the location that rednotebook store data. e.g C:/Users/YourName/.rednotebook/data/

Enjoy it :D

Hi Sopha,

Thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately, I can't get it to work. I can copy the contents of the exported file, but I an not able to paste it in the data file. I wonder if it is because it is in TXT format? I am using version 1.6.1.

Hello John,

Maybe we got a confusion. I have backed up the data so I got a zip file that it has TXT files in there. e.g. 2012_01.txt
And then, I just copy those txt files into "..../.rednotebook/data/" , so I got all my old notes.

As Sopha has said, you can import a backed up journal by copying the 2012-xx.txt files from the zip file into your journal dir, but you cannot import an exported journal.

OK. thanks for your advise. I upgraded to Windows 8 and spent a lot of time making sure I had a backup of everything first. I did an export file to an external drive and also did a back up, but I now think it it went to the disk I did the clean install to. So it is all lost except for the exported txt file. I am looking at getting the important days and just retyping them back in. Thanks again.

Sorry to hear that. At least you still have the exported text.

One issue that I have is display the image. If I backed up from my old pc to the new pc, the image wont display correctly (because of from path dir). Any idea for this?

It is planned to allow adding links relative to the journal directory in
a future RedNotebook release.
