Will password protection be added to the program?

Asked by Ian Pettman

Just wondered, I don't often leave my laptop lying about open, (I don't have a password for my computer) I guess I could set one up, but I really Love Rednotebook, it's straightforward and easy to use, but what would make it great would be the abillity to secure my journal, so no one can read it unless they know my password.

It's 2022. It looks like this has been an ongoing request since 2009. That's 13 years. Is there any update on password protection or some kind of encryption? I just hope I'm blind and missed it somewhere on the site. LOL If not...

I'm not a programmer. I don't want to fiddle with a work around. I just want to type in a password to the app and know my journal is secure. I don't want people accidentally opening my file either by the app itself, or by finding the raw text file where it's all stored.

If I'm missing something, please let me know. I've been using this software since around 2014. I've not updated it in a long time as it sits on a very old laptop. But I have thought about installing a fresh copy on my new laptop and decided to check here if there were any updates on this very old issue/request. I have always thought this would be the best journal software if it only had some kind of encryption. I really don't want all my private thoughts and feelings just hanging out on my harddrive, even if I have a password on my old laptop, accidents can happen. And if I die, maybe I want someone to open my laptop, but NOT my journal. I'm looking at other open source journal software and many of them have some kind of protection. So why can't Redbook?

Can we get some kind of update on this? This clearly isn't "solved" if this thread is still here without a "We have Password now with update 10000.01 Check it out!!" =)
