Need way to donate without PayPal account

Asked by Bob Langill

I would like to make a donation, but I don't want to set up a PayPal account to do this. On other websites, I've used PayPal services to make payments without having to create a PayPal account. RedNotebook is something I use everyday, and I'd like to contribute, but I want to limit which sites are keeping my financial information.

It's great that you want to make a donation. For making a donation via
paypal you actually don't need any account there. You can just use your
credit card or bank account if it's supported. When you click on one of
the paypal buttons you find a "Continue" link on the left side of the
page for that.

If that doesn't work you can send me an e-mail (jendrikseipp ät web dott

Hi there,

I was having this same issue as i just outright refuse to connect Paypal to any existing bank account of mine (In the US, Paypal gets away with all sorts of evil doings given that they are not technically a BANK here).

Anyway...if you are in the US, Wal-Mart (yeah...i know) offers a prepaid VISA card that you can continuously refill--with no extra charges per month. I think you just pay for the amount that is already loaded onto the card + some one-time service fee of $5 or something.

(FYI for the Privacy-Oriented: Though you can use the VISA card purchased at the store immediately, that card is considered "temporary"--perhaps it cannot be refilled unless you get the "permanent" one--meaning that at some point you'll be giving them your full name and address in which to mail you your "perma-card". I've not tried this yet, but it'd probably be just as easy to treat the cards as disposable instead--OR, provide fake name and friend's address/PO Box to retrieve perma-card. This was you may be able to keep adverts and other physical junk mail at bay.)

At this point you can now pay for anything that uses Paypal by going to the merchant/developer's checkout/donation site and tell Paypal you would like to use a *credit card* for the transaction. If things have not changed since the last time i used paypal...you should then just get a form to fill in card details, send, and be done with it. You should not be prompted to log into an existing paypal account, create a new one, or connect any bank accounts.

I bank at US BANK, when I was there I asked about something similar to what Mopsy Cottontail suggested, they told me about their Convenient Cash card for their customers. There's a setup fee of $3, but no service fee for using or reloading the card. To reload the card, I have to go to the bank in person, but the teller was cute and friendly, so that's not a bad deal.

Jendrik, I appreciate your trust, but I didn't want the responsibility of having your bank information. Most people are honest, but the damage that dishonest people can do exceeds their numbers.
