Date in Weekday Template

For the weekday templates is there something other than $date$ that I could use that would insert the date for the selected day, rather than the current day. Example: I forgot to make an entry yesterday, so I selected yesterday's date and inserted "This Weekday's Template" and even though it uses the Thursday Template, the date inserted by $date$ is Friday, February 17, 2012. I know you probably have bigger problems to worry about - but this would be helpful.
