How do I share a journal across several Mac computers?
I have a Mac desktop and a Mac laptop, both running RedNotebook 1.2 through X11 and bash. I would like to update the journal entries from either Mac. I saved journal to my DropBox as a .txt file. The file can be opened and read on either Mac, using the Mac text reading program. However, when I open the file using RedNotebook, no information is imported. Am I doing something incorrect? Is there another procedure that I could or should use to share the journal between PCs? This is important to me for the future also, since I am currently running RedNotebook on a PC with Ubuntu; I will moving the information from that PC to a Mac next year, and I want to be able to recover and use the RedNotebook file that I currently have on Ubuntu with the Mac that I will purchase.

you never open the txt files, you just open the directories that contain
them from within RedNotebook.
There is no live sync, i.e. if you change smething on one computer you
have to restart RedNotebook on the other one to see the changes.
By the way: Could you send me a screenshot of RedNotebook running on a
Mac? I would like to see what that looks like. Which method did you use
to make it run?

I tried opening the folder, and it still did not import the file.
I'll send screen shot in a couple of minutes.

I think you'll have to send the screenshot by mail: https:/
Please use the following steps:
Make sure that one of the files yyyy-mm.txt in your journal folder contains some text and remember for which date it contains text.
Open RedNotebook.
Do Journal->Open and select the journal folder.
Navigate to the remembered day with the calendar and see if there's text.
Does it work now?

Hi Jendrick,
I could not see your screen shot - your link is an https address.
I did exactly what you said. However, I could not see anything in RedNotebook. There is information in the text file. This is from November 5, from a file named: 2011-11.txt
5:
Cool Stuff: {Ate **two** cans of spam: null}
Ideas: {Use a cool journal app: null}
Movies: {Monty Python's Life of Brian: null}
Tags: {Documentation: null}
text: 'Hello! Some example text has been added to help you start and you can erase
it whenever you like. The example text and more documentation is available under
"Help" -> "Contents".
The interface is divided into three parts:
- **Left**: Navigation with the calendar
- **Center**: Text for a day
- **Right**: Annotations to a day
The text above is exactly what I see in RedNotebook on the Mac desktop, the source of the file.

It seems that everything works fine. Are you sure there's content in
/Users/
and it's really not displayed in RedNotebook under the respective dates?

this shows you're trying to load a journal in the main dropbox folder.
You should put 2011-11.txt in the RedNotebook subdirectory and load that
directory like you did before.

Thanks Jendrik! I made a dummy file with the same name, and did not import the real file correctly! Now I got it to work. This question can be marked 'answered'. Did my link help you?

All solved. I never thought of looking at the log file. And, I found out how to get to hidden Mac folders in the process! Thanks for the quick response and steady assistance and guidance.
