Need backup file location

Asked by VirginiaC

The documentation says that a backup is done when the program is closed. Where are these backups located?

The documentation only says that the journal is *saved* once the program is closed. Backups have to be done manually, but this will probably be done automatically in the future.

OK, I see what you are saying. But if something is *saved*, it must be
somewhere ;>). Is it on my computer? I'd like to be able to retrieve a day
or so, if necessary, even if I have to copy and paste some text, rather than
lose it. Making a backup each day is a drag, although I do it often. Or
maybe I'm not doing it correctly.

The default journal is located at ~/.rednotebook/data

On Windows ~ is C:\Docs & Settings\username

Some of the months in this folder had data, but (especially) not in the current month of July. So the last close of RedNotebook did not cause the data to be saved here. Thanks for continuing to look for the answer.

I'm sorry to tell you that the data of July has probably been lost. There is a bug in version 1.1.7 that causes the file to be overwritten. I have taken the installer from the web and am investigating the issue.
