How to add on 12.04?

Asked by Stephan Wissel

How can I add the applet when there isn't the panel-applet dialog (or I'm not skilled enough to find it :-))

If you installed gnome-panel and selected Gnome Classic (no effects) from the login screen, then you can edit the panel with alt+right click. If you instead select Gnome Classic, and alt+right click doesn't work, alt+super+right click may work.

If you choose to use Unity instead (the default session in 12.04), then unfortunately you cannot add the applet to the panel, however, you can install indicator-notifications. It doesn't have as many features as the applet but will show you the five most recent notifications, and if you click to delete a notification, it will continue to display older notifications you may have missed until all messages are exhausted.

Hope that helps.
