adjust the image to the user's longitude

Asked by tim

Hi,
I love the program, but I come from New Zealand, and so my country is in the bottom right of the image which is generated.
I wonder if it would be difficult to add a feature where the user can select a longitude value for the image to centre about, so that it would be possible to have New Zealand in the centre of my desktop. This would make it really easy for people like myself to easily see their country on the map. It is particularly noticeable on the Mollweide projection.

Thanks,
Tim

I think it is a very good idea but at the moment I don't generate the images. I just get them from die.net/earth and set them as a background wallpaper. So, is out of my hands.

I have intention though, to incorporate this (http://www.fourmilab.ch/cgi-bin/Earth/action?opt=-p) in the future. I would be losing the realtime cloud weather but I think it would be a nice feature none the less.

This is only a thought, so I have no idea when or if, it will happen a all.

Thank you for the idea though, I'll have in mind.

Hi tim,

I've implemented some changes to the get_image.sh script
that allows the image to be centered on the Pacific / NZ

Hope this helps!
