Freeform text response

Asked by Anton Farber

Hi Adam,

I have a question regarding text responses: is there any way to use freeform text responses where the amount of characters isn't predefined? Because quite a few users are writing a response which either doesn't align in the character boxes or extends the space provided. The only possibility I can think of is to specify a huge response length and remove all surplus character boxes afterwards with a pdf editor (but leaving the "hidden" boxes in the banding so they can still be used for a text entry). For me the best way would be to have just one huge text box (like e.g. in a html form) instead of multiple character boxes. I'm aware that ICR probably won't work but I'm not using it anyway. Any ideas?

Ys, Anton

Hi Anton,

When creating the questionnaire, change the format of the response from "text" to "longtext" in the queXML file and a long box will appear instead of for multiple characters.

If the form is already printed, change the type of one of the text boxes to "Long text" and remove the remaining boxes created.
