Import a directory of PDF files times out

Asked by Aurelio Arias

Hi,

Firstly thank you for developing this tool. It's great!

Unfortunately I haven't been able to test it yet with my own Questionnaires as after I've generated the Survey and Banding XML using Limesurvey and uploaded it to queXF, I try to Import completed scanned in PDF files and I get the following error:

75 Sun 06 Jul 09:01PM Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 240 seconds exceeded in C:\xampp\htdocs\quexf\admin\process.php on line 91
74 Sun 06 Jul 08:57PM Processing pid: 37761501...
73 Sun 06 Jul 08:57PM Got qid: 4...
72 Sun 06 Jul 08:57PM Finding qid...
71 Sun 06 Jul 08:57PM Importing: C:\xampp\htdocs\quexf\doc\filled/6Jul3.pdf

Details of the version I am using:
Windows 8
queXF Windows Installation v 1.15.0

I read here (http://lietoservetruth.wordpress.com/2010/11/15/how-to-install-configure-quexf-windows-linux/) that I need to download ImageMagick and Tesseract but the Windows Installer only includes ADOdb and Ghostscript.

1. Does this mean that the Windows Installer does not have OCR capabilities?
2. Are ImageMagick and Tesseract defunct or are they still required?
3. Is (http://lietoservetruth.wordpress.com/2010/11/15/how-to-install-configure-quexf-windows-linux/) still the best install guide for a newbie (should I ignore the Windows Installer?)

Many thanks!
Aurelio

Dear Aurelio,

How many pages is your questionnaire? How many boxes are there on each page approximately?

If you have enabled ICR for the questionnaire - please try disabling it and importing again to see if that is causing the issue. If not - are you able to send me the zip file produced by Limesurvey for testing?

The newer versions of queXF do not require Tesseract or Imagemagick for ICR.

I would suggest that for a beginner the provided downloads will be easier to start with.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the speedy response. I reextracted the Windows installer to try again but still get the same error :(

>>>How many pages is your questionnaire?
2 pages

>>>How many boxes are there on each page approximately?
1st page: 5 text fields, 4 multiple answer tick boxes) and a free text box making a total of 71 individual boxes.
2nd page: 0 boxes

>>>If you have enabled ICR for the questionnaire - please try disabling it and importing again to see if that is causing the issue.
Not enabled

>>>If not - are you able to send me the zip file produced by Limesurvey for testing?
I have uploaded the limesurvey output and a printed and filled in sample questionnaire (9Jul3.pdf) in the following location:

Thank you

Dear Aurelio,

Can you please try scanning the document again in monochrome (1bit) at 300DPI.

Please let me know if that helps with the import.

Adam Zammit

Can you help with this problem?
