Responses not being read, possible wonky scans

Asked by Mark Carver

Hello, I've imported and banded my form. However, when I go to verify the orange boxes are way off target. There are only a few purple boxes, but when they are there then they tend to be accurate. Some of my scans are a bit wonky, or off centre, could this be the cause? I assumed the barcode and edge borders would compensate for misalignment, but if not can anyone suggest a workaround?

Also, I've used a bulk scanner, so have about 50 responses in one pdf file (so 50 pages with the same barcode) - is this OK?

Thanks for your help

Mark

Hi Mark,

If the page appears wonky in verification, it is usually because the edges have not been detected properly. The best way to debug it is to locate the scanned response form that comes out wonky, then load it in to the "Test form compatibility with queXF" function in the administration section. See if the edges are detected. If not - you will need to go to "Page setup" for the form and adjust the page edges to allow for the edges to be detected.

queXF expects one scanned response form per PDF file - so you may need to split them. I've used pdftk in the past. I have also suggested this in the past:

"Alternatively you could edit functions/functions.import.php to handle the case of multiple forms in a single PDF. I'd suggest that you keep a record of the barcode of each page in an array, and when it encounters a duplicate barcode to treat it as a separate form."
