Bookmark not transferred across 2 pi os machines

Asked by Reef moussalli

I have used bookmarks with qpdf extensively on the first pi 400 pi os unit (ticked the restore option) can save and restore them on that pc without any problem. But when I transferred (via a thumb drive) to the second pi os pi 400 os unit the bookmarks don't show up on the second qpdf.

I thought maybe the bookmarks are store in a separate file on the unit, but I wasa not able to find what file it was to trabsfer it as well.
Then I tried to add a bookmark and restored it successfully on the second qpdf, but a search of the whole drive of the second unit did not show that any (hidden or not) file was changed.

I am in a situation where i need to work on both units at different times and keep them in sync by transferring via USB stick/drive.

Thanks

NOTE: the second unit was installed a week go with the 7 sep 2022 pi os newest update. The first one was installed around 10 Oct 2022 - not sure what version.
Thanks
Reef

How do I copy a pdf file ( saved by qpdf with bookmarks) from one pi 400 unit to another pi 400 unit - without affecting the bookmarks?

Hello Reef,

the bookmarks (and any other persistent state of qpdfview) are not stored in the PDF file itself, they are stored in a separate database qpdfview keeps when you enable the various "Restore xyz" settings.

This database is usually located at ~/.local/share/qpdfview/qpdfview/database. You should be able to synchronize this file to move your tabs and bookmarks around.

Regards,
Adam
