--search and empty strings provided by applications

Asked by Alad Wenter

qpdfview doesn't open a file when an empty search string is provided:

"Using '--search' requires a search text."

Some programs, in my case Recoll [1], specify a search text on a case-by-case basis, but the qpdfview command line remains the same. i.e., you'd have to choose between not searching on startup, or being able to open files in more scenarios.

Not sure what the best course of action would be, hence the question.

Hello Alad,

when we last discussed this, we decided on a stricter command-line interface that follows the UI closely (which also does not allow empty search strings) and resolved the issue of how to integrate with Recoll using a helper script, e.g. [1].

Best regards, Adam.
