Cannot load plug-in for file type PS!

Asked by Mdavies5

Using Linux Mint 16 64 bit and qpdfview 0.4.9 (also tried 0.4.3). My file can be opened in Gimp or Evince but not qpdfview. I have libspectre1 0.2.7.2 installed and v0.24.1 of all the poppler libs etc.
My file is produced by a Java app and identifies itself as: %!PS-Adobe-3.0

Hello,

the error message "Could not load plug-in for file PS!" means that the plug-in itself could not be loaded and hence the problem should be there with every PostScript file. Can you load any other PostScript files? Could you also try to run qpdfview in a terminal so that we can have a look at any error messages it might generate?

Best regards, Adam.

Thanks Adam,
No, I cannot load any PS file. I ran in a terminal and got:
Could not load plug-in in first attempt: ""
"The shared library was not found."
Could not load plug-in in second attempt: ""
"The shared library was not found."
This made me realise I might need an extra library.
I had installed from apt-get in order to get the latest version. Now I went to the Mint Software Manager and found that the PS plug-in was a separate install. All is now fixed.
As a matter of interest I downloaded some sample PS files. qpdfview could handle those with header PS_ADOBE and PS_ADOBE_3 but not those with PS_ADOBE-2; neither could Evince.
Thanks Again for prompt service, Michael
