Black screen after install

Asked by quimojoy

Hi,

I am pretty much new in Linux. I have installed quimo to my old laptop Compaq armada E500. Installation went fine, computer rebooted and... Black screen.

I don't know what to do or what went wrong. Maybe something with video adapter and GUI.

Is there solution to this problem?

Huh, I have a lot of squashfs errors during install.

I am downloading quimo again, then I will burn another cd and try new install. I found on the net, that these errors are usualy bad cds. It looks somehow that burning linux installation cds in windows isn't always good idea.

I will report back.

Ok. I had to manualy partition my disk and format it to get rid of the squashfs error messages during installation.

When installation is over, there is only black screen there with cross (like large X) which moves when I move the mouse.

I used crtl, alt and backspace to come back to console and there I see an error:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Staring Ubiquity...
traceback (most recent call last):
   File "/usr/bin/ubiquity-dm", line 267, in <module>
     ret = dm.run(*sys.argv[3:])
   File "/usr/bin/ubiquity-dm", line 113, in run
     raise XSturtupError, "X server failed to start after 60 seconds"
__main__.XSturtupError, X server failed to start after 60 seconds
                                                                                                             [fail]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All ather lines have [OK] status.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Solved.

Sorry to all my readers for this monodramatic experience.

I feel stupid. The only thing that I need to do was to delete all partions from my hard disk (or leave empty space for quimo partitions).

After that Installation program began normaly. Click here and click there and voila... Quimo desktop.

Best wishes to you all.

A friend...
