Why are not all videos downloadable that can still be replayed from the web?

Asked by RJVB

When I open the page qarte uses to obtain the list of available videos (http://www.arte.tv/guide/fr/plus7/toutes-les-videos?sort=recent&country=FR) in a browser, I can scroll down and replay (much) older videos than qarte will propose for download.

For instance,

http://www.arte.tv/guide/fr/059573-004-A/les-plus-beaux-parcs-d-europe

can be watched but is not available in the qarte list, while

http://www.arte.tv/guide/fr/061666-000-A/paris-on-the-water

is. From the information the Chrome extension "Video Download Helper" shows I cannot see why the former would not be downloadable.

I can understand that the list of downloadable videos cannot be infinitely long, but would it not be possible to provide a "Open Arte URL" action which takes an URL like the 2 above and then downloads what can be downloaded? I see that internally these URLs are already used, so it might not be much work to implement this kind of feature.

Feature which might be useful anyway because it isn't always that easy to find a specific video in Qarte (think of the Xenius episodes).

Update:

I hacked ArteTV::get_stream_urls() , hardcoding

item.url = 'http://www.arte.tv/guide/fr/061733-016-A/enquetes-archeologiques'

and added a random video from the list of available videos to the download list.
Apart from the fact that the video is saved under the title of the selected programme, it downloads just fine.

It may thus be necessary (or simply easier) to ask the user for a title under which to save the video.

Can you help with this problem?
