Is ipython.el needed?

Looking at the INSTALL and README files, it looks like I can use python-mode with ipython as my default shell without having to load ipython.el. I just tried that and it seems to work. Is there any functionality in ipython.el that python-mode does not provide?

iypthon.el. has been merged into python-mode.el

History-handling of ipython0.11 and higher is broken currently.

Should you miss a feature resp. encounter a bug, please file a bug-report.
