Ridiculously basic how-to questions about editions and menus

Asked by Michael McCarthy

OK... I'm not getting something here.

I want to have the home page carry general news in story-type content.

Then I want to have several items on the menu bar across the top that read:

Home - Columns - Reviews - Discussion - About (and so forth).

I want to be able to have readers click on menu bar and have, for example, the Columns page open.

There I will have my columnists' articles listed in "story-type" content.

(About will be in "page-type" content, Reviews "story", Discussion "Forum" and "Blog".

Anyway. I created channels for all the items.

I added the items to the main menu.

I set up an edition that started Jan. 1, 2009.

The menu bar looks fine.

But when I try to post content, nothing appears appears.

So what am I doing wrong.

Also, in some cases, I'll want to post content so it appears on the Front Page and in, say, the columns page.

Sorry to be so clueless.

(What I need is a screencast, I think.)

Frustrated in Seattle,
Michael

Hi,

Channels operate in one of two modes: scheduled editions channels, and story listing channels.

For scheduled editions channels, content (ie. stories) do not show up automatically. In addition to creating your story, you then have to add it yourself to the present edition or a future edition of a channel. It is a manual step because ProsePoint does not know how and where you want your stories to appear in your channel (ie. the channel's layout).

My guess is that your 'Home' channel is a scheduled editions channel.

If you have a channel that is a story listing channel, then to make a story appear in that channel, when you edit that story, just select the channel(s) you want from the story's edit form. It will then appear in your selected channel(s), in reverse chronological order.

I hope this helps your question.

I suspect I haven't answered it fully, so please ask for more clarifications if needed.

Can you help with this problem?
