In a normal drupal installation you can check a box which says summary when creating content. This way the teaser text is different from the node text. Is it possible to reactivate this function?

Not without breaking the visual editor. There's no easy way to get TinyMCE to understand teaser vs. summary, so I had to remove the summary feature (and go back to a similar behaviour to how Drupal5 does things).
